Our dear mother, Cecile Barbara Sharon Underwood, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on January 31, 2023, at the age of 85.
She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, J.T. Underwood, her Mom and Dad, Wendell and Sara Roberts of Decatur Georgia, her brother Wendell Roberts of Little Rock Arkansas, and her fourteen brother and sister in laws from the Underwood family.
She is survived by her son Mike Underwood (Karen) and her daughter Kelley Underwood (Darcy), and her three grandsons Zach Underwood (Stephanie), Blake Underwood (Handley), and Josh Underwood, her six great grandchildren, a brother-in-law Don Grogan, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Our mom retired from the Northeast Georgia Medical Center (fka, Hall County Hospital) where she was a supervisor in the old X-ray Department (Radiology). Sharon loved sowing, fishing, gardening, and was a great cook (especially her fried chicken and short beef ribs!). She loved animals and was especially found of her cats over the years. She had a great sense of humor and quick wit. Also, her and our dad really loved their years house boating on Lake Lanier.
Her name, Cecile Barbara Sharon, came into being because our grandad was working for the CBS affiliate radio station at the time of her birth. (It’s a good thing that she stuck with just the name Sharon…) She also, prior to becoming too sick to attend, loved being a part of the Koinonia Sunday school class at First Baptist Church.
Additionally, after retirement, our mom had a heart for ministry by volunteering for many years at the Good News Clinic using her x-ray skills, serving as a Stephen minister with the First Baptist Church of Gainesville, and helped to deliver meals on wheels in Hall County. Also, one of her greatest joys was hosting a Monday night bible study with a group of wonderful ladies whom she dearly loved. Being a senior, she was not scared of technology. She loved the latest technological gadgets and would love to purchase the “latest greatest”. Her and our dad had many lifetime friends that are almost all gone now, that really enjoyed each other's company. They are now back together, I’m sure enjoying fellowshipping with one another, but primarily enjoying the worship of the One who “prepared a place for them” for all of eternity.
The family request contributions be made in lieu of flowers to the Humane Society of Hall County, and the Good News at Noon ministries. Sharon Roberts Underwood, 85 of Gainesville passed away Tuesday January 31, 2023.
Memorial services will be held Saturday February 4, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Rev. Bruce Fields will officiate. A private family interment will be held at Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.
