Burl Rufus Jones, Jr.

Mr. Burl Rufus Jones, Jr., 88, of Gainesville, passed away Monday, January 30, 2023 following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2023 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Bill McKinney will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born on November 18, 1934 in Gainesville, he was the son of the late Burl Rufus, Sr. and Eva Mae Pittman Jones. He was retired from the City of Gainesville where he worked in the Water Department. Mr. Jones was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Liberty Bible Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his son in law, Matt Bryner.

He was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He looked forward to the visits with his family every week. He loved to travel, and the outdoors. He will be missed very much.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 64 years, Annie Bell Jones of Gainesville; daughter, Sharon Bryner; son, Joe Jones; grandsons, Frank Earls, Matthew Earls, Joe Earls; granddaughters, Caroline Barker Earls, Lexie Walker Yancey; great grandchildren, Caden Earls, Aubrey Earls, M.J. Earls, Luca Earls, Layla Earls, Greyson Earls all of Gainesville; extra special friends, Dallas Dale, Kyle Stevens of Gainesville; brothers, Billy Gee, Wiley Gee (Diane), Lamar Gee (Vickie) of Gainesville, Randall Gee (Rita) of Oakwood; sisters, Bobbie Bruster of Braselton, Terra Helton (Marc) of Oakwood; special friends, Bill and Lavonne Venable, Ray and Barbara Shubert, Julian Dove all of Gainesville and a number of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
