Lewis Howard Shankle, Jr.

Lewis Howard Shankle, Jr. was born in Cabarrus County, NC on January 21, 1950, to the late Lewis and Rosalee (Louise) Shankle

He attended Torrence Lytle School in Huntersville NC, York Road and Myers Park High School in Charlotte NC.

He was employed with General Electric & Harrelson Ford Charlotte NC in the early 70s. He loved his family and was laid back, fun to be around, easy going, and loved the Lord. He had a passion love for singing and music. He was in a band called Silk, Satin, and Soul in the 70's with 3 best friends/ brothers Derrick and late Darryl Young and Josh.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Grandmother Bessie Miller Kimble. Siblings: Jefferson Nero, Lonnie Mae Shankle, Betty Jean Thompson and Clyde Shankle.

After living on the West Coast, he relocated to Atlanta GA and eventually united with the Salem Missionary Baptist Church in 1989 and was a faithful member of the A/V, Music, and Transportation Ministries.
“Shankle” worked various jobs before joining the Custodial Staff at South Gwinnett High School, where he was known for sharing an encouraging word with all he encountered. He retired in 2014 and after a brief return to North Carolina, he returned to Georgia where he remained until his death.

On January 28th, he peacefully transitioned from labor to reward at home with his wife Anita. Additionally, he leaves to cherish his memories and carry on his legacy, Daughters: Kenya Shankle, Tamala (Michael) Grier, both of Charlotte NC, Sasha Jones (Edwin), Denver Colorado, and Marissa Shankle, Lawrenceville, GA. Son: Richard Lewis Shankle, Decatur GA. 12 grandchildren: Demarcus, Diesha, Niesha, Whitney, Londyn, Majesty, Mason, Messiah, Medan, Eden, E’cion and Lewis, III. 5 great-grandchildren, Dr. Richard B, Haynes and family, a special cousin June Kimble who he loved dearly, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

His kind, witty and gentle spirit will certainly be missed…. Especially in Shankleville,

The visitation for Mr. Shankle will be held Saturday, February 11th between the hours of 11-1pm at Salem Baptist Church. The Celebration of Life will follow at the hour of 1pm. Professional Services Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
