Osborne Lee "Spud" Dotson

Osborne Lee “Spud” Dotson, age 75, of Gillsville, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023. 

Born on November 23, 1947, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Claude Lee “Red” Dotson and Susie Bell Ramey Dotson. Spud was a mechanic and was a drive train specialist. His family described him as a hardworking man who loved music and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren to play. He was of the Christian faith.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jean Welborn. 

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Chris Dotson (Loretta) of Gillsville, son, Martin Dotson, son and fiancé, Jason Dotson (Heather Baker) of Flowery Branch; daughter, Jeanie Worley of Clayton; grandchildren & fiancés, Joshua Robertson, Dakota Dotson (Anna Wesson), Noah Dotson (Laura Denny); great grandchildren, Everly Robertson and Ellie Knight; step-grandchildren, Caleb Baker, Hannah Baker and Carsyn Baker;  sister, Katie Dotson of Clermont; best friend and uncle, Ronnie Dotson; several nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at the funeral home. 

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 am, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart, Thursday, February 2, 2023 with Rev. Austin Kelley officiating. Interment will follow at Welcome Baptist Cemetery, 604 Welcome Church Road, Westminster, South Carolina 29693.
