Mike McElroy

Mike McElroy, 73, of Dawsonville passed away Friday, January 20, 2023 at his residence following a sudden illness.

Born August 8, 1949, Mike was raised in Mableton where he was a graduate of South Cobb High School and met his wife.  A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Mike had been a resident of Dawson County for over 50 years.  He was a U.S. Army veteran who earned a Purple Heart while serving in Vietnam.  Following his military service, Mike worked as an electrician with IBEW Local 613 for over 40 years until his retirement.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Teresa “Terry” Waters McElroy and parents, Vernon and Betty Rutledge.

Surviving are his children, Shelley Cox (Tim Mason), Brandon McElroy (Bridget Thompson); grandchildren, Sydney Holtzclaw (Keith), Riley Cox (Stephen Roberson); great-granddaughter, Caroline Reese Holtzclaw; sister, Susan Hunter (Mike); brothers, Ted Rutledge (Jan), Gary Rutledge; sister-in-law, Marsha “Skeet” Waters Evans; nieces, Katie Bailiff (Alex); nephews, Steven Hunter (Cari), Ronnie “Sug” Hall (Vickie), Brian Hall; great-nephew, Jacob Hall; great-nieces, Stevie Kate Garcia, Emma Hunter; other relatives.

A memorial visitation will be held at Bearden Funeral Home on Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
