Melba Simmons, 78, of Dawsonville passed away Friday, January 20, 2023.
Born April 28, 1944 to the late Hasel and Ola Turner, she was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Melba was formerly employed by the Dawson County School System and the Dawson County Day Care Center. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed painting, caring for children and gardening. A member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Stoney Simmons; brothers, Wayne Turner, Gene Turner; and a grandson, Tristen Donavan.
Surviving are her daughters and sons in law, Penny and Roger Garrett, Dawsonville, Pam Biddulph and her fiancé Max Bolton, Cumming, Rebekah and Jeremiah Waser, Salida, Colorado; grandchildren, Mallory Garrett, Dylan and Natalie Garrett, Macy Biddulph and her fiancé Dave Rogers, Zachary Biddulph, Marley Biddulph, Isiah Huff, Isaac Huff, Iris Huff; great grandchildren, Ryleigh Grogan, Lily Biddulph, Oaklee Cooke, Harrison Garrett, Banks Biddulph; sister and brother in law, Dorothy and Ernest McGill, Dawsonville; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 23, 2023 at 1 o’clock at Pleasant Union Baptist Church. Rev. Josh Mulkey and Rev. Steven Chapman will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 until 8 at the funeral home.
