Jean Elizabeth Morrison Hotalen, age 89, longtime resident of Toccoa, Georgia passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at The Oaks – Scenic View Skilled Nursing Facility in Baldwin, Georgia.
A daughter of the late Erwin Barnes Morrison and Dorothy Virginia Moorman Morrison, she was born in Springfield, Ohio in 1933. Jean moved with her family to Miami, Florida when she was a young girl. After high school, she attended Toccoa Falls College where she married William Norwood “Bud” Hotalen.
Sensing God’s call on their lives to the mission field and completing their studies at Toccoa Falls College, Jean and Bud spent nearly 40 years serving the Lord in Africa, first in the Democratic Republic of Congo and then in the Cote d’Ivoire in various ministries.
Retiring to Toccoa, Georgia in 1994, Jean was an active member of First Alliance Church Toccoa, where she was a pianist for worship services and for the choir, with an anointing of the Holy Spirit. Jean loved spending time in the Word and in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jean leaves behind her husband of 69 ½ years, William Norwood “Bud” Hotalen of Toccoa, Georgia; her five children, Iris Joy Freeman and her husband Gary Freeman of Toccoa, Georgia, Stan Erwin Hotalen and his wife Connie Hotalen of Toccoa, Georgia, Norwood Earl Hotalen and his wife Lynn Hotalen of Buford, Georgia, Terry Lynne Newman and her husband Barry Newman of Toccoa, Georgia and Virginia Dianne Warner and her husband Mark Warner of Kansas City, Kansas; sixteen grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Harry McDonald and his staff as well as the staff of Amedisys Hospice, The Clary Center, Stephens County Hospital and The Oaks at Scenic View for the excellent, loving, attentive care given to Jean Hotalen.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, January 24, 2023, 11 o’clock a.m. at First Alliance Church Toccoa with The Reverend John Harvey officiating.
