Betty Jean (Jones) Teate

Obituary Date: Wednesday, January 11, 2023

Mrs. Betty Jean (Jones) Teate, age 89, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm Saturday prior to the funeral. Services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel with interment to follow in Alta Vista Cemetery.

Ms. Betty was born in Dahlonega, Georgia on August 22, 1933 to the late Luther Daniel Jones and Mary Lou (Parks) Jones. She enjoyed many careers in her lifetime, most notably her time with Sears and the State of Georgia from which she retired.

Ms. Betty was a faithful and active member at Riverbend Church for 50 years and was known by all for her kindness and unwavering selflessness. She found her greatest happiness in her family especially in her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James P. Teate; her sisters, Lucille Tankersley and Shirley Jones; and her brother Bobby Jones.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry (Araceli) Emmett of Gainesville; son, Curtis Teate of Gainesville; daughter-in-law, Dodie (Mark) Black of Gainesville; grandchildren, Jessica Emmett (Jim Southard) of Jefferson; Casey (Kayla) Emmett of Jefferson; Chase Bray of Winder and great-grandson, Jack Emmett of Jefferson. She is also survived by one niece, Annette Southwell of Alabama.
