Ray Thad Shoemake, age 91, of Dahlonega, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2023.
Mr. Shoemake was born on April 18, 1931, in Forsyth County, Georgia, to the late Walter and Emma Hubbard Shoemake. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in 1951-1955, during the Korean War. Ray was stationed in Okinawa. He later retired from Andean Motor Company with 45 plus years of service, where he was a parts manager and was very proud of his work. Ray was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Rena (Billie) Shoemake; daughter, Denise Shoemake; and brother, Warren Shoemake.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Renee and Larry Sutton, Dahlonega, and Annette and Dean White, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Kim and Jeremy Boleman, Mark and Taylor Sutton, Rodney and Jenny White, Deana and Thomas Fountain, Stephanie White, and Shane Shoemake; sisters, Edna Graham, Wilma Raines, and Martha Martin; brothers, Raymond Shoemake (Patricia) and Charles Shoemake; Billie’s daughter, Pamela Wilson; grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 13, 2023, at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Phillip Robinson will officiate. Interment will follow in Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery. A livestream of the funeral service can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/event/2781750
The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home, prior to the funeral service.
