Frank Pohl, 99, of Hoschton, Georgia passed away peacefully on January 6, 2023.
Frank was born on October 27, 1923 in Czechoslovakia. The tragedy of WW2 made it necessary for him to escape his homeland to make a new life in Germany where he embarked on a career in journalism with Radio Free Europe and Voice of America. His passion for truth made him an avid reader and student of current events that carried throughout his lifetime. After his retirement he and his wife moved first to Huntsville, Alabama, and then settled in Atlanta, Georgia. Both moves were to be closer to family.
He met his wife, Amanda, in a relocation camp in Germany. They had four children, Marie, Joe, Barb and Martha. As a family, they lived a full life filled with travel throughout Europe and the US.
Frank was a devout Catholic who credited his faith for his ability to overcome the hardships of leaving everything familiar and starting over in a strange new country. He was a dedicated, devoted, and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was compassionate and caring of every living being, most especially animals. He was famous for baking bread and creating wonderful soups.
We will always and forever cherish our memories, and times spent together. We are eternally grateful for the beauty of his love. Rest In Peace Dear Father you have arrived in the heavens above.
Funeral Mass will be held on January 11, 2023 1:00PM at Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
