Jeff was born on Mother’s Day, May 10th, 1942 in Kinston, NC. He grew up in Snow Hill with his parents, Dr Robert J. Walker and Rubye Leftwich Walker. He was the favorite little brother to his sister Patricia “Bibi” Harding.
The family later moved to Macon, Georgia where his father became Director of Public Health. Jeff graduated from Lanier High School and went to Davidson College. He followed in his father’s footsteps and pursued medicine at the Medical College of Georgia. There, he met the love of his life, Dianne Bailey. They were married in June 1965 - less than a year after meeting on a blind date. He graduated in 1967. He started his residency in Radiology at VCU School of Medicine in Richmond, Virginia. His residency was interrupted when he was drafted to serve in Vietnam.
Jeff left his wife and 10 month old daughter to serve as a radiologist in the Army in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971. Upon discharge, he finished his residency in Augusta, Georgia.
He had a successful career as a radiologist in Atlanta Georgia working at Northside Hospital, Windy Hill Hospital and Kennestone Hospital where he served as chief of staff. Although he enjoyed his work in medicine, his primary focus was his family. He volunteered every year to be a little league baseball coach and football coach for his sons. He encouraged his family to ski and enjoy camping in the mountains. Jeff loved to garden. He was an avid reader and collector of trains and comic books.
After his 3 children left for college, he helped Dianne pursue her love of horses and moved to Banbury Cross Farm in Moreland Georgia. He continued to work until age 70 when he retired after suffering a stroke. He continued to help Dianne raise horses during his retirement. They later moved to Gainesville to be closer to Spencer and his family.
