Robert T. Dambach, Sr., father of Dr. Robert Dambach of Buford, passed away on January 6, 2023 after a long illness. He was 90 years old. He was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine Dambach of Perth Amboy, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his wife 47 years, Loyce.
His education includes a BA in Historical Studies and a Masters in Education from the University of Houston, Clear Lake, TX.
Mr. Dambach served in the United States Air Force for 29 ½ years. He retired as Chief Master Sergeant and Chief of Loadmaster Standardization and Evaluation of the 463rd Tactical Airlift Wing. He served 8 years in Vietnam. He received many service awards including: Chief Enlisted Air Crew Wings, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Force Presidential Unit Citations, and Combat Crew Medal.
After retiring from the Air Force, he taught History and Government and served as ROTC Instructor for Dickinson High School, Texas. He retired from there in 1995 to assume the duties of Veterans Service Officer for Galveston County Texas. During his twelve years of service he helped Veterans and Survivors of Galveston County receive two hundred million dollars in benefits paid directly to them. He was also instrumental in bringing two Out Patient Community Clinics to serve the Veterans of Galveston County. He received many commendations for his service.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, The air Force Association, Vietnam Veterans of America, AMVETS, Americal Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his daughters, Sandra Wood, Susan Coker, Beverly Dambach-Molina, Dr. Cynthia Inkpen, Dr. Denise Workman, Patricia Dambach-Circo, Dr. Kimberly Doyle, and his son Dr. Robert T. Dambach, Jr. He has seventeen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Services will be under the direction of Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, GA. Visitation is Monday, January 16 from 6pm – 8pm. Funeral service will be Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic church. He will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Houston, TX.
