She was born in Turnerville to the late Virgil and Mae Ivester Moore. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Sewell Jones; sisters: Louise Ivester, Fannie Moore, Inez McGahee, Nancy Tillotson, Valaree Ivester, Ila Ivester; and brothers, Willard Moore and Claude Moore.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Greene (Steve); five grandchildren: Billy Miller (Connie), Mark Miller (Doug), Ryan Garcia (Rob), Jessica Scardina (Todd), Candice Bracken (David); ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. She is also survived by two brothers, Randy Moore (Betty) and Charlie Moore (Jewel) and a loving sister-in-law, Gwen Galloway (Larry). She was blessed to have numerous nieces and nephews.

She worked in textiles in South Carolina before retiring back home to Georgia where she spent many years enjoying spending time with her siblings before moving back to South Carolina. She was passionate about two things – her family, which meant the world to her and NASCAR. She was lovingly referred to by her NASCAR family as “Queen Mother”.

The family would like to extend gratitude to the staff of Oaks of Seneca and Agape Hospice Care for their caring love and support.

A graveside service will be held 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Mt. Zion Church Road, Clarkesville, Georgia, with Rev. Austin Ivester officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Velma’s honor to Agape Hospice Care.
