Evelyn Cronan

Mrs. Evelyn Cronan, age 101, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022. She was born in rural Lumpkin County on October 7, 1921, to the late Thomas Mote and the late Belle Arrendale Mote. She attended Nimblewill Baptist Church, was a charter member of the Nimblewill Goodwill Circle, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Evelyn contributed to the WWII war effort as a ‘Rosie the Riveter’ in the Bell Bomber plant in Marietta. After graduating from North Georgia College, she taught in a one room school in the Nimblewill community and later became a substitute teacher in the Lumpkin County School System.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Clinton Cronan Sr.; son, Harry Cronan; brothers, Ralph Mote and T.J. Mote; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Garfield and Oma Cronan; daughter-in-law, Brenda Cronan and son-in-law, Ed Herring.

She is survived by her children, Ann Herring of Anderson, SC, James C. Cronan Jr. MD (Jean) of Atlanta and Joe Cronan (Lori) of Dahlonega; grandchildren Katie Hawkins (Alex), Matt Herring (Crystal), Angela Laxson (Jeremiah), Sara Cronan, Nathan Cronan, Casey Cronan, Anna Cronan and Kelly Cronan; 9 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jean Cronan Reed; nieces, nephews and numerous loved ones.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 2, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the cemetery of Nimblewill Baptist Church.
