George Thomas Philpot, Sr

George Thomas Philpot, Sr, age 82 of Gainesville, GA (formerly of Suwanee, GA), passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. He was preceded in death by father, Mynor Daniel Philpot, Sr; mother, Myrtle Elizabeth Philpot; and brother, Danny Philpot.  Mr. Philpot is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Joann Philpot; children, Angela and Buddie Currie of Gainesville, GA, Kim and Brian Oliver of Hoschton, GA, Tom Philpot, Jr and wife Jody of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren, Christen and Michael Roberts, Josh and Mekinnah Currie, Ashley and Justin West, Amanda Philpot and Dalton Carter, T. J. and Staci Oliver, Zachary Oliver; great grandchildren, Annisten and John Oxford “Knox” Roberts, Collins, Salem, and Rhoen Currie, Leah and Mekinnah West, Ava Carter, Piper and Blaykle Oliver; brothers, Bobby Felicia Philpot; sisters, Nany Torek and Linda and Steve Antopolsky; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Philpot was born on January 9, 1940 in Augusta, GA.  He was a graduate of the University of Miami where he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marines and was a retired executive after twenty-nine years in marketing from AT&T.  Mr. Philpot graduated from Richmond Academy in Augusta, GA and was a substitute teacher at Creekland Middle School for eighteen years. He was a member of Pioneer Telephone Club and Rotary Club, and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Philpot was a mentor at Creekland Middle School, and was an avid golfer. He loved the beach and spending time with his family and dogs, Sierra and Gator. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. The family will have a time of visitation for family and friends on Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Flanigan Funeral Home.
