Bill Evans, our very much loved husband, father, and papa went home for his first Christmas in heaven on Friday, December 23, 2022.
Bill was the son of the late W.R. and Margaret Evans of Lumberton, North Carolina. He was Uncle Bill to a number of nieces and nephews and Preacher Bill to churches and the community. He was a graduate of Toccoa Falls College and Atlanta School of Radio and TV Broadcasting. Early on, Bill worked as Minister of Music in several churches then pastored for over 40 years. He retired from Sunnyside Baptist Church in Toccoa, Georgia after 16 years there. He so enjoyed doing interim work and pulpit supply.
Bill’s favorite roles as pastor were showing off the babies on their first trip to church, baby and children dedications and baptisms. He was thrilled to lead people to a personal acceptance of Christ. Bill was known for his wit and humor as well as for incorporating stories into his messages. He was patient, kind, and taught his family the values of love and respect.
Bill went home peacefully, surrounded by his family which are left with a huge hole in our hearts: his wife, Aundria Finley Evans, daughter Krista Evans, sons and wives Russ and Missy, and Charles and Rebecca, as well as grandchildren Jonathan, Andrew, Abby, and Camdyn Evans. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Little of Lumberton, North Carolina, sisters in law: Jeanette and Delores Finley, brothers in law, Dr. H.E. Finley of Westminster, SC, LtCmdr (Retired)USN Clemeth Finley and wife Orene, and Harold Bost of Fayetteville, Georgia. He had numerous friends and associates across Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
Bill was a survivor of mantle cell lymphoma for 20 years, having been in Stage 4 three times. His last three months of life were most trying, being hospitalized and unable to be with his family and do the things he loved. Bill’s favorite Bible verse was Isaiah 26:3: You will keep him in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in You. This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Please keep the families in your prayers.
