Julius Harold Dickerson, Jr.

Julius Harold Dickerson Jr. “Jute” age 86, of Dillard, Georgia passed away on December 20, 2022.

Jute was born the son of the late Julius Harold Dickerson Sr. and the late Louise Fowler Dickerson on May 28, 1936 in Clayton, Georgia. He was a graduate of Rabun County High School Class of 1954. In his professional life Jute worked as an engineer for Burlington Industries, Sangamo Weston, Rockwell International, Lockheed, and Siemens. He was involved in the aerospace industry as a fireman during the Atlas Rocket Tests at Cape Canaveral.

Throughout his life he was active in many areas of the community. He was a Master Mason and a member of the Rabun Gap Masonic Lodge 265 and a 60 year mason. He was a member of the Clayton Volunteer Fire Department and also served as a scout leader for the Boy Scouts. Jute always enjoyed being outdoors, spending time hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed history, and had a great deal of information about the World War II plane crash that occurred in Rabun County. He hiked into the crash site many times, and also enjoyed using his metal detector at areas of historical importance. Jute was a Christian, and was a member of the Dillard United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Grist Dickerson; his sister-in-law, Karen Dickerson.

His survivors include his wife, Betty Tasker Dickerson; his son, Bill Dickerson (Cynthia), of Watkinsville; his daughter, Amy Dickerson Moore, of Dillard, Georgia; his three brothers, Robert “Bobby” Dickerson, of Lithonia, Georgia, James “Jim” Dickerson (Huellene), of Jackson, Georgia; Melvin Dickerson (Myra); six grandchildren, Laura Dickerson, Leah Smith (Ray), Scott Dickerson, Sarah Moore, Catherine Moore, Robert Moore (Cecilia); five great-grandchildren, Camille Hudson, Naomi Hudson, Antonio Hudson, Judah Hudson, Mayleigh Smith.

The family will receive friends on Friday December 23, 2022 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the Dillard United Methodist Church in Dillard, Georgia.

A funeral service will be held on Friday December 23, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Dillard United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Volk officiating.

Committal will follow in the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Rabun County Historical Society P.O. Box 921 Clayton, Georgia 30525.
