Herby Floyd Mize, Sr.

Mr. Herby Floyd Mize, Sr., 66, was born June 12, 1956 in Gainesville, Ga, to the late Floyd William and Doris Elizabeth (Jarrett) Mize. He departed this life on Friday, December 9, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Gregory Mize Herschel Mize; nephew, Deotris Mize and sister, Elizabeth Mize.

Herby was known as “Drag” in his community. He was a member of St. Paul UMC, Gainesville, GA. Herby attended the Hall County School System. After graduation he joined the United States Army. He was a proud veteran. Herby also attended Lanier Technical College. Herby was a concrete finisher by trade.

He was a loving and gentle soul. He loved jazz, dancing, clowning around, but most importantly his grandchildren were his world. He would share his wisdom and knowledge with whomever would receive it. His daughter said that “He stood for someone something.”

Mr. Mize is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Rucker Mize of Gainesville; sons, Herby (Marie) Floyd Mize, Jr and Hervon (Jordan) daughter, Gelisa (Warren) Faulkner; brothers, Shawn Mize and Shawn Mize; sisters, Janice (Elderick) Lytle, Marica Mize; grandchildren, Elijah Mize, Faith Mize, Jayceon Faulkner, Jayda Faulkner, Radre Mize, Aaliyah Mize, Miyah Mize, Safiyah Mize; aunts, Claudine Randolph and Wynonia Moss; mother in law,  Willene Summerour; brother in law, Timothy (Sonya) Rucker; sisters in law, Betty Mize, Regina Summerour, Diane (Curtis, Sr..) Haynes, Vickie (Russell) Smith, Dorothy (Kenneth) Bolden and Shirley Few; a host of special cousins, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2022 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Anthony Dorsey and Rev. Darryl Lyles will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour.
