Samme Kaye Johnson, of Flowery Branch, Ga., passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2022, at age 83.
Samme was born on October 28, 1939 to her late parents Charles D. and Pauline (Green) Hightower in Benham, Kentucky. She began a long career as a legal secretary in Wauchula, Florida and retired after 23 years as the legal coordinator at the Decatur-DeKalb News Era in Decatur, Georgia.
Samme is survived by her youngest sister and her spouse, six children and their spouses, many grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Gaye Parnell and her husband of 41 years, Dennie Buford Johnson.
Samme was a strong, independent woman who enjoyed her career and loved her family, children and friends. She enjoyed dancing, bowling, card games, backgammon and watching the Atlanta Braves. She was fun loving, witty, open and friendly. She will be sorely missed and dearly remembered.
Services will be held at Memorial Park South Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4121 Falcon Parkway, Flowery Branch, GA. 30542, 770-967-5555 on Saturday, December 17 (www.memorialparkfuneralhomes.com.) Visitation will begin at 12 pm with the funeral service in the chapel at 2 pm.
