Mr. Thomas Melvin Chapman, Jr. age 86, of Gainesville, Georgia, peacefully went home to be with his Lord, on Sunday, December 11, 2022.
Tom, was born November 30, 1936 in Gainesville, Georgia. He was the son of the late Thomas (T.M.) and Wylene (Boots) Fortune Chapman.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Thurmond Chapman; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lyn (Chapman) and Kenneth Meeks; sister, Barbara (Chapman) Greene; brother and sister-in-law, Perry and Fifi Chapman; nephew, Michael Meeks; nephew and wife, Brian and Ginny Greene; sister-in-law, Barbara (Thurmond) Peters; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy (Thurmond) and Jim Hall: nieces, Kara (Lusk) Pumphrey, Natalie (Lusk) and Scott Robinson; Heather (Lusk) and Tony Riley; and several great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. P.H. Chapman and Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Fortune; brother-in-law, Clinton Greene and Bill Peters.
Tom made his personal faith commitment as a teenager. He attended First Baptist Church and was a member of the Angler’s Sunday School Class. A graduate of Gainesville High School, Tom also graduated from the University of Georgia with a Business Degree.
He worked most of his life with his father, who founded Chapman Motor Company and later he worked in the used car business until his retirement in the early 2000’s.
The family is very grateful to all those who loved tom and went above and beyond to honor and cherish him. A special thanks to Hospice for their care and support.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel with interment to follow at Alta Vista Cemetery. Reverend Jeremy Shoulta and Reverend Ron Grizzle will officiate.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the First Baptist Church, 751 Green Street Gainesville, GA 30501, or a charity of your choice.
