Hugh D. Shirley, age 88, of Buford, GA passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022. He was preceded in death by son, Hugh David Shirley; parents, Homer and Gladys Shirley; sisters, Ethel Cagle and Norma Nalley. Mr. Shirley is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Gail Hughes Shirley of Buford; daughter, Heidi Shirley Starcher and husband Marty of Winder, GA; son, Jeffrey Lane (Jane) Shirley of Flowery Branch, GA; eight grandchildren, Hope Ussery, Heather Harrison, Amber and Marshall Reeves, Adam and Courtney Shirley, Andrew and Cassie Shirley, Alex Shirley, Avery Shirley, Stephanie Bean Jones; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Dot Masters of Dacula, GA, Nancy (Gene) Wallace of Gainesville, GA, Brenda Shirley; sister-in-law, Brenda (Wayne) King of Buford; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Shirley was born on October 11, 1934 in Buford, GA. He received his education at Buford High School. He was a retired barber from Peachtree Battle Barber Shop in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Shirley was a member of New Prospect United Methodist Church in Buford, GA. He enjoyed playing guitar, and collecting coins and clocks. He also enjoyed camping, the Braves, and the GA Bulldogs. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Adam Shirley officiating. Interment will follow at New Prospect UMC Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 5 at the funeral home.
