Rev. Loyd Martin, of Cleveland, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the Oaks at Scenic View in Baldwin. He was 87.
Rev. Martin was born on May 22, 1935, to the late Sid and Ellen Martin. He served with honor in the United States Army. Rev. Martin was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Algene Freeman Martin; brothers, Hugh Martin and Ray Martin; sister, Evelyn Pardue.
Rev. Martin was “Papa Loyd” to all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They all knew how much he loved and cared for them.
He worked hard all of his life, but his love was being called into the ministry. He often said what an honor it was that God had that much confidence in him. For 50 years he was a humble servant and the very definition of a pastor. He was always “on call” and always available to his congregations. He said many times that you couldn’t “outgive” God. The desire to preach God’s word burned within him even until his last days. He longed to see his Savior, and as of the past four months, his precious wife. Welcome home thy good and faithful servant.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Cherri and Joe Morrison, Cleveland, GA, Holly and Kerry Smith, Aubrey, TX, Ginger and Jesse Thomas, Evans, GA; as well as 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; and now is helping MamaGene in Heaven babysitting Oliver and Grayson. Also, he is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Harlan and Regina Martin, Hartwell, GA, brother, Royce Martin, Cleveland; sister, Joyce Pilgrim.
