Margaret Elizabeth Spruill Duren

Margaret Elizabeth Spruill Duren, age 96, from Cleveland, GA (formerly of Gwinnett County, Georgia), passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2022.

Mrs. Duren born on February 26, 1926, in Milton County (now North Fulton County, GA).  She was the daughter of the late Charlie Manon Spruill, Sr., and Mary Pearl Long Spruill. Mrs. Duren was the wife of the late Fred Collier Duren who passed away on their 72nd Wedding Anniversary in 2019. She was preceded in death by 9 siblings, her son-in-law, Robert “Bobby” Ammons, and several nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Ann Duren Ammons of Jefferson, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Alan “Jim” and Kathy Lewis Duren of Cleveland, GA; grandchildren, Nathan Ammons and his wife Lindsey of Jefferson, GA and Bethany Ammons Peacock and her husband Cody of Auburn, AL; great-grandsons, Jordan and Luke Peacock; sisters-in-law, Lillian Duren Cannon of Winder, GA; Peggy Duren Prince of Gainesville, GA; Lamar Eubanks Duren Maddox, Cleveland, GA,  and several nieces and nephews.

She was a former member of Lebanon Baptist Church, Lawrenceville, GA where she taught the Primary Sunday School Class. She sang with the church Lady’s Quartet, and played the piano when called upon. At the time of her death, she was the oldest member of Liberty Baptist Church, Sugar Hill, GA.  While at Liberty Church, she was known to send “Get Well Cards” to the shut-ins of the church community.  During her public working years, she was employed by Sears, Roebuck & Company, Gwinnett County School System working in the lunchrooms of Bethesda Elementary School and Berkmar High School.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford, Georgia with the Rev. Charles Spruill, Rev. C. T. Evans and Rev. Farrell Wilkins officiating.  Interment to follow the service at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Duluth, GA.  The family will receive friends on Friday, November 18, 2022, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
