Mr. J.W. Fields, age 82 of Dahlonega, Georgia passed away on November 8, 2022. He was born on August 8, 1940 in Dahlonega, Georgia to the late Hoyle Fields and the late Ollie Garrett Fields. J.W. was born and raised in Dahlonega. J.W. was a proud veteran of the US Navy and served as a aviation boatswain's mate. He lived in Gainesville for over 30 years while working and raising his family. In 2000 he moved back to his hometown where he would spend the remainder of his life. J.W. was an active and involved member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. He was a great family man and was known by his family as "J bo". He was a man of many talents and enjoyed tinkering on things- especially his tractor. He could often be found spending time with friends and family, golfing, or trying to slip away to the casino. Everyone who ever met J.W. loved him and he simply never met a stranger. He will be missed by many.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn Hughes Fields; brother Carl Fields; and sister-in-law Frances Fields.
He is survived by his two sons, Jeffery (Jeannen) Fields of Bloomingdale, Georgia and Scott (Djeneba) Fields of Milton, Georgia; siblings Ed (Doris) Fields, Ralph Fields, Dola (Dan) Davis, Virginia (William) Sheriff, Larry (Cindy) Fields and Doug (Doris Ann) Fields; grandchildren Jeffery (Michelle) Fields, Taylor Rae (Stephen) Peck, Aaron fields and Kevin Fields; great grandchildren Kaelyn, Jase, Mary Parker and Caroline.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home with Rev. Christian Van officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 11, 2022 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM and on Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 2:00 PM until the service hour. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in memory of J.W. to the Lupus Foundation of American or to the American Lung Association.
