Loraine Ann Collins

Obituary Date: Tuesday, November 8, 2022

Loraine Ann Collins passed peacefully on November 8, following a rich and wonderful life of 96 years.

She was born on September 20, 1926, in Hammond, Indiana to Frank and Ann Hoeppner. She married Tom Collins in 1947 and together they moved across several Midwestern cities and finally settled in Lawrenceville, Georgia in 1973. She retired from the insurance industry and enjoyed her retirement years on Lake Lanier in Forsyth County. Aside from the love of her family, one of her greatest joys was traveling the world with her friends. She visited numerous countries from Holland to China to Australia. She was an avid sports fan. Beginning with the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs and converting to a life-long Atlanta Falcons and Braves fan. Her enthusiasm for sports was most apparent by her support for her grandchildren’s athletic endeavors. She became a passionate fan of their chosen colleges, Purdue University and the University of Georgia.

Perhaps her most impactful contribution to her community was her dedication to the Northside Hospital Auxiliary through the Crafters Guild. She dutifully served for 29 years, first managing the hospital gift shop then finding her true passion with the Women’s and Children’s Center. She organized and oversaw the creation of knitted hats and blankets for newborn babies as well as cancer patients. This among all of her accomplishments in life was one that brought her pure joy.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, and husband, Tom Collins. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Skip and Kay Collins (Gainesville, GA) and Art and Debbie Collins (Floyds Knobs, IN), and grandchildren, Brandy Black (Floyds Knobs, IN) and Kimberly and Michael Cooper (Gainesville, GA). She loved being Gigi to her great-grandchildren, Eden, Brayden and Ryder Black (Floyds Knobs, IN). She also leaves behind special friends, Lee and Dana Maddox, Dee Salter, numerous volunteer colleagues and Red Hat Society friends.

The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to The Oaks at Gracemont and the Northeast Georgia Hospice care team.

A private, graveside service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northside Hospital Auxiliary, Crafters Guild Volunteers, 1200 Northside Forsyth Drive, Building 1400, Suite 110, Cumming, GA 30041 or the Forsyth County Humane Society.
