Sharon Mae "Shari" "Nina" Rothgery

Obituary Date: Monday, October 24, 2022

Sharon Mae “Shari” “Nina” Rothgery was born on October 2nd, 1936 to parents Marie and Wendell Fathers in Detroit, MI and subsequently grew up in Grosse Point, MI. She married her best friend Bernard “Barney” Rothgery on December of 1956 and seven years later in 1963, they moved to Elyria, OH where they raised 3 children together. They later moved to Gainesville, GA in 1984, where she resided until her passing in October 2022.

Today, she is survived by her husband of 66 years, her 3 children: Katherine Hrivnak (husband Ronald), Julie Norris (husband Van), and David Rothgery; her 3 grandchildren: Joshua Welch Sr. (wife Florentina), Matthew Hrivnak (wife Ashly), and Jordan Hrivnak; and her 6 great grandchildren: Joshua Welch Jr., Jaden Welch, Tino Welch, Torrianna Welch, Vera Hrivnak, and Karis Hrivnak.

She was an exuberantly bright and beautiful light in this world with a heart full of gold that never met a stranger, only friends or family, for she had a gift for connecting with people. She had a deep, incredible adoration for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that transcended the lines of poetry she loved to write about the Lord, that were lifted only higher on the prayers she loved to sing with people. She was the world’s unofficial biggest fan of Hallmark movies, especially Christmas ones, and whenever she got the chance to, she’d stay up in the wee hours of the night watching them, doubly better enjoyed when she managed to snag one of her children or grandchildren into watching them with her. She loved spending time and being extremely goofy with her husband, her children, and all her grandchildren, always telling them that, “Goofy is good!” and “Jesus loves you very much”.

Sharon moved on from this world on October 21st, 2022 to be with her Lord after battling a yearlong fight with complications from COVID-19 and dementia. She was a long and well-lived 86 years of age. Her memory continues to live on in all those that she left behind, to carry on the message of what it means to be a kind, caring, and loving human being.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2022 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Dr. Scott Downing will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
