Joan Grier Wiley

Obituary Date: Saturday, October 15, 2022

Joan Grier Wiley passed away at the age of 73, in the presence of family on October 15, 2022 in Clermont, Georgia, after a courageous battle against cancer.

Joan was born November 12, 1948 in Cleveland, Georgia, to the late Dorothy (Hulsey) Grier and Hoke Grier, one of 6 sisters and 6 brothers. She married young and started a family with the love of her life, Leonard Wiley, Jr. They had 4 beautiful daughters. After the births of her children, she went back to school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse at North Georgia Tech, and then again to become a Registered Nurse, graduating from the University of North Georgia. She would go on to serve her patients with endless compassion and care for over 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, her siblings, Susie Kennedy, Phoebe Holcomb, Linda Oliver, Fletch Grier, Bill Grier, Jimmy “Jimbo” Grier and Mark Grier.

She is survived by her four daughters and their spouses, Cindy Wiley and Swayne Oliver, Jane and Danny Thomas, Lori Turpin, and Leslie and Stacy Smith; her eight grandchildren and their spouses, Katie and Bill Lomax, Wiley Oliver, Kassie and Andrew Taylor, Wyatt Oliver, Weylin Oliver, Lainie Turpin, Mallori Turpin, and Fletcher Smith. She is also survived by her siblings, Mary Thomas, Lana Black, Zach Grier and Andy Grier.

Joan was a woman of many titles. She was a daughter, a mother, a wife, a nurse, a gardener, a grandmother. Her home was always full of love, laughter, reruns of the Golden Girls and Andy Griffith, and pots upon pots of flowers. She was the focal point around which her entire family would rotate; she was the matriarch. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the National MPS Society located at the following web address: https://mpssociety.org/.

Services will be announced at a later date.
