Carrie Lou Braswell Szell (affectionately known as “Nanny”) was born December 29, 1932, to Verlie Mae and Ed T. Braswell.
Carrie spent her growing up years heavily involved in the Buford community, particularly the Buford Church of God. Carrie met her beloved husband, Imre, and spent much of her adult years moving with him and their boys, Paul and Mike, with Imre’s job in the United States Army. Carrie kept the wheels turning in their little family and did so without complaint, regardless of the circumstances. She was calm in chaos, but don’t let that confuse you into thinking she was without an internal fire.
Carrie was the type of person who never met a stranger. She could talk to anyone and everyone and delighted in hearing the details of your life. She loved to brag on her kids, grandkids, and “great-grands”. She would tell anyone who would listen how much she loved her family.
Carrie was a matriarch of the family, the one who knew all the stories, the distant cousins, and the small details that many other people would forget. She was intelligent, funny, and above all, kind. Her life is marked by her love of Jesus, her love of family, and her kindness to every person she met. Rarely do you meet someone who does not have an enemy to be found; Carrie was that person. She was a light for her Lord Jesus for the entirety of her life. Her family and friends deepl grieve her loss.
Carrie is survived by her husband of 59 years, Imre, her sons Paul (Stacie) and Michael (Ingrid), her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sister (Truel, Larry, and Evelyn), and her daughter-in-law Carol.
