Genie Elizabeth (Loggins) Whelchel

Genie Elizabeth (Loggins) Whelchel, 89, of Gainesville, died Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following years of an extended illness.

Mrs. Whelchel was born in Gainesville, Georgia and one of ten children of the late Mr. Charlie and Mrs. Mary Lou Loggins.

Mrs. Whelchel graduated from Riverbend High School in 1950 where she stood out as a guard on the varsity basketball team.

Mrs. Whelchel married Mr. Billy R. Whelchel July 28, 1951 and worked at Leece-Neville Manufacturing and Enota Elementary School.  Most notably, Mrs. Whelchel received numerous “Pace Setter” awards for her sales performance while working at and retiring from Belk after 28 years of service.

Mrs. Whelchel was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church in Gainesville, Georgia for over 40 years.

Mrs. Whelchel is preceded in death by 5 sisters (Charlene Loggins, Irene Gilstrap, Amanda Beck, Idell Fowler, and Betty Grizzle); 3 brothers (Newman Loggins, Howell Loggins, and Ray Loggins); and 1 granddaughter (Mallory Whelchel).

Survivors include her husband, Billy R. Whelchel, Gainesville, Georgia; her sister, Mary Nell White, Gainesville, Georgia; her sister-in law and husband, Shirley and Jim Gailey, Clermont, Georgia; her brother-in law and wife, Sam and Deborah Whelchel, Clarkesville, Georgia; her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Tina Whelchel, Madison, Alabama; and her grandson, Logan Whelchel, Madison, Alabama.  The family would also like to recognize and thank Mr. Ronnie Pack of Commerce, Georgia who has provided years of unwavering support to Mr. and Mrs. Whelchel.

The family will receive family and friends from 5pm to 7pm,October 14, 2022 at Little and Davenport Funeral Home, Gainesville, Georgia.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30pm, Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Little and Davenport Funeral Home Chapel.

The Rev / Dr. Jerry Gill and Rev / Dr. Tyler Smiley and Rev Don Ormsbee will officiate the memorial service and grave side remarks at Memorial Park Cemetery.
