William V. Nickonovitz, “Bill”, passed away October 10, 2022, at age 87. Born in New York, Bill moved to Georgia after high school to attend Georgia Southern College where he met his wife, Ann, and later served in the army at Fort Benning. After a career as a mechanical drafting engineer, Bill returned to college and retired from Grady County Schools having taught at both South Side and East Side Schools. He was an avid cyclist, riding regularly with friends into his early 80’s, and enjoyed fishing any time he could get away.
Bill leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Ann, his daughter, Mary, and son-in-law Brett Calzaretta, grandson Gavin and his wife, Cresta; sisters: Lydia Eckert and Nadine Ludwig; brother John Nickonovitz; sister-in-law Kathy Wetters and her husband Brian; brothers-in-law: Lee Booth and his wife Brenda and Gariel Paul, and numerous nieces and nephews.
No formal services are planned, instead, the family will have a celebration of life for Bill at Lake Eufaula, Alabama, a favorite get-away for Bill and Ann. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice House at Northeast Georgia Health System Foundation in Gainesville, Georgia.
