Lucy Mae Banks Stancel

Lucy Mae Banks Stancel, age 92, of Dacula, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 8, 2022, surrounded by her family.  Lucy was born on       July 19, 1930 and lived in Gwinnett County for most of her life.  She was married to her beloved husband, Cline Stancel, for 53 years before his death in 2003. She was also preceded in death by her loving parents Odell and Mae Banks, her daughter-in-law Melinda Freeman Stancel, granddaughter Natalie Mae Stancel, and great-grandson Zane Stancel.  She was an active member of Duncan Creek Congregational Church where she was famous for her cornbread dressing and caramel poundcake.  She was best known as Mama, Grandma Lucy, Aunt Lucy, and GG.

Lucy is survived by her children Philip (Barbara) Stancel of Watkinsville, Dennis Stancel of Grayson, Judy (Mark) Gordon of Dacula, Joy (Davey) Solomon of Hamilton, and Jerry (Laura) Stancel of Dacula.  Her grandchildren Matt (Laura) Stancel, Jonathan (Millie) Stancel, April (David) Lowe, Nicole Drake, David (Tanya) Gordon, Daniel Gordon, Jason (Loni) Solomon, Dayna (Tony) Newton, Jordan (Jenny) Stancel and Sarah (James) Austin.  Great-grandchildren Annie & Erin Stancel, Ezekiel & Lucy Gordon, Cooper & Cade Solomon, Austin, Andrew & Maggie Newton, Kinsley & Killian Stancel, and Jameson & Jeremiah Austin. Sister-in-law Barbara Banks and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel, 3481 Hamilton Mill Road, Buford, Georgia on Monday, October 10, 2022, from 10:00 – 2:00 and from 4:00 – 8:00.  The family will also receive visitors prior to the funeral service on Tuesday from 12:00 – 2:00.  Funeral Service will be held in the Hamilton Mill Chapel at 2:00 on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, officiated by Rev. Dee Dillin. Her family will be honoring Lucy by wearing blue to her service and you are invited to do so as well. Interment at Duncan Creek Congregational Church immediately following funeral service.
