Vickie Jan O'Neil

Obituary Date: Tuesday, October 4, 2022

Vickie Jan O’Neil of Clermont passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2022, after a brief illness. Jan was born in Gainesville on September 21, 1955, as the first child of John Cronic and Doris West Cronic. Jan attended Chestnut Mountain Elementary School where she loved playing basketball and making friends. She went on to graduate from Johnson High School in 1974, where she again excelled at making friends.

Jan began her working career serving as a clerk for several years in a couple of local convenience stores. She loved working with the public where her warm personality and love of people made her a favorite with her customers, some frequently stopping by to make very minor purchases simply to say hello to their friend, Jan.

Later in her career, Jan worked for a local printing company. She loved the work, but more than that, she loved the people she worked with, remaining very close to them even after retirement.

Jan always dreamed of owning her own home, and after much hard work, she made that dream come true in 1996.  She bought a wonderful home in a great neighborhood where she lived until her passing.

Around this time, Jan met the man who would become the love of her life, her precious Mike. Mike also worked in the printing business so they had much in common, but they also had enough differences to keep things interesting. They would make an idyllic life together. Whether it was traveling to iconic places like the national parks or to special events like the Kentucky Derby, they made every day and every moment together special. They were inseparable until Mike’s passing in 2014.

Jan never had children of her own, but she had several nieces and nephews who she considered and treated as her own. She loved them so much and they her. Always there for them anytime they ever needed anything, Jan cherished visits and sleepovers, where of course she spoiled them rotten. She said it was an aunt’s duty.

Jan was a selfless giving person who was always there for her brothers and other family members, always providing good advice and loving support.  Later in life she sacrificed her time and resources by providing love and care for her aging parents. Jan was a saint and a Godsend to all who knew her.

Finally, there’s a saying, “to have a friend you have to be a friend”. Jan was a true friend to so many, and in turn, she had numerous friendships, many of which she maintained since childhood. The world will be somewhat lessened without her in it, but Heaven has certainly been enriched. Well done Jan, you will truly be missed.

Jan is preceeded in death by her loving parents, John and Doris Cronic, and her precious husband, Mike O’Neil. She is survived by her brothers, Steve (Kathy) and Russ (Lorraine); nieces, Melinda (Sam) and Samantha (Brannon), and nephews, John Mark (Emily) and Cody (Kara); along with several great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be announced soon.
