Cassie Mae Smallwood Gilleland, 90 of Gainesville died Friday September 30, 2022, at her residence.
A lifelong resident of Hall County, Mrs. Gilleland was the daughter of the late John and Montine Edge Smallwood. For over 30 years, Mrs. Gilleland worked in the lunchroom at North Hall High School before retiring. She also worked in the cafeteria at First Baptist Church on Green Street and was a homemaker. Mrs. Gilleland was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Hazel Gilleland, Gainesville, daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Lamar Staton, Gainesville, Sheena and Phil Harkins, Murrayville, grandchildren, Todd and Charity Staton, Florida, Derek Staton, Gainesville, Bryan and Buffy Gilleland, Tifton, Ga., Elysha and Brian Hunter, Gainesville, Korey and Krystin Harkins, Cumming, Ga., Kolin Harkins, Greenville, SC, 5 Great grandchildren also survive. Sister, Carloyn Cain Sears, sisters-in-law, Betty Holman, Altheda Sellers, Bobbie Butler and Caroline Smallwood. A number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Mrs. Gilleland is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Francis "Aaron" Gilleland, sisters, Ruth Smallwood, Ruby Smallwood, Maudell Adams and brother, Bobby Smallwood.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday October 4, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Rev. Les Fuller will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ed Chambers officiating. The family will receive friends at Little & Davenport Funeral Home Monday October 3 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
