Mary “Phyllis” Ledford Barfield, age 88, of Cleveland, formerly of Miami, Florida, passed peacefully at her home on Monday, September 26, 2022, after an illness.
Phyllis was born on July 21, 1934, in Miami, Florida, to the late Philip and Trollie Holt Ledford. She was married to the late Charles Edward Barfield for just over 61 years. They moved to Cleveland, her father’s birthplace, in 1994 after she retired from Kislak National Bank in Miami.
She was a graduate of the University of Florida and a long-time bookkeeper and friend to Julie Deal of Deala of Miami. She enjoyed reading, puzzle books, and visiting the various flower gardens in north Georgia. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter Lynda Carol Barfield Berninger, her husband Charles Edward Barfield and her parents Philip Ledford and Trollie Holt Ledford.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Barfield, Cleveland; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jim Reeves, Sharpsburg; son-in-law, Timothy Berninger, Cleveland; grandchildren, Scott and Beranda Berninger, Cleveland, Heather Berninger, Orlando, FL, Travis Berninger and Eric Black, Orlando, FL, Katelyn and Allen Gravitt, Dawsonville and Casey Seabolt, Montreal, Canada; great-grandchildren, Madison Berninger, Dakota Berninger, Brayden Berninger, Chloe Berninger, Alaina Gravitt, and Rhett Gravitt; sister-in-law, Alice Barfield of Jesup; special nieces, Cheryl Allen of Lake Wales, FL and Joyce Taylor of Bon Aqua, TN; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside services are scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Sunday, October 2, 2022, at Gateway Memory Park. The Rev. Chris Anderson will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home, prior to the graveside service.
