Richard Frank Godfrey, 85 of Gainesville passed away Wednesday September 21, 2022 at his residence.
Mr. Godfrey was born in Hall County November 19, 1936. He was the son of the late Rufus R. and Vara Norton Godfrey. Mr. Godfrey was a retired teacher with the Cobb County Schools System, had served in the United States Air Force and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Marietta, Ga.
Survivors include his wife, Genelda V. Godfrey, Gainesville GA, daughter, Gretchen G. Howland (John), Woodstock GA, son, Richard F. Godfrey, Jr. (Kathy), Braselton GA, granddaughter, Alicia Marshall (Kyle), Atlanta GA, great grandsons, Levi Marshall, Luke Marshall, grandson, Andrew Howland, Woodstock, GA., granddaughter, Ivy Martin (Matthew), Gainesville, GA, great grandson, Theo Martin, grandson, Cory Godfrey, Canton, GA.
Mr. Godfrey is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Mary Nell Glass and Annie Kate "Kit" Hurst.
Memorial services will be held Saturday September 24, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Matthew Martin, Kyle Marshall and John Howland will serve as officiants for the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. Mr. Godfrey's cremains will be interred at the Georgia National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions please be made to the National Parks Conservation Association or a charity of one's choice in memory of Mr. Godfrey.
