Dale Merlyn Hoberg, 83, of Gainesville, GA passed away peacefully at Northeast Georgia Medical Center on September 17, 2022.
Dale was born Nov 16, 1938 in White Plains, New York, of Swedish descent. As a child his family relocated to Arlington, VA where he learned to fish on the Potomac River. Fishing and boating would become lifelong hobbies for Dale as he lived on Lake Hartwell and retired to the Lake Lanier area.
After graduating from George Washington High School in Alexandria, VA, he attended Virginia Tech in Industrial Engineering. Before beginning his career in apparel manufacturing, Dale joined the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam War, receiving the American Spirit Honor Medal.
As industrial engineer and manufacturing manager, Dale relocated to Ohio and then North Carolina. One career move brought him to Greensboro, NC where he met his wife of 42 years, Judy Hoberg. Together they moved to New Hampshire and then to Georgia. Dale and Judy would spend most of their lives in Georgia, with Dale retiring from the manufacturing industry in Hartwell, GA, where he was active in Rotary Club. After leaving manufacturing, Dale worked in the financial industry as a stock broker for A.G. Edwards in Athens, GA and as a real estate broker in Hartwell and Gainesville, GA. Dale was a member of the United Methodist Church for much of his life. He served on the finance committee of Hartwell First United Methodist Church and was a faithful member of Redwine United Methodist Church upon moving to Hall County.
Dale enjoyed the camaraderie of good friends, especially those he made at Cresswind on Lake Lanier. A lover of games, Dale taught bridge classes in the community and joined the bowling team. Dale completed the Master Gardener program in Hart County. Dale participated in community theater groups as an actor, costume designer, lighting technician and board member in the communities where he lived.
Dale is survived by his wife, Judy Gatlin Hoberg; a daughter, Karen Batra of Washington, DC; step-daughter April Lowe Warnock (Lamon) of Gainesville, GA; grandchildren, Parker Warnock, Casey Warnock (Ngoc), Georgia Warnock Smith (Eli); and one great grandchild Kai Xuan Warnock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Pauline Hoberg, and his first wife Arlene Barnhill Hoberg. Additional survivors include a cousin, Ted Hoberg (Edie) of Tennessee.
Funeral services will be at 3 pm Friday September 23rd at Little Davenport Funeral Home, Gainesville, GA. Visitation for family and friends will be at the funeral home from 2 pm till 3pm Friday the day of the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Dale Hoberg to the Humane Society and the Salvation Army.
