Herman Donald Lewis, of Gainesville was born, March 27, 1947, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Everyone who knew him called him Donnie—and few special people got to call him “daddy,”
“papa,” or “poppie.” Donnie was born and raised in Gainesville. He was most often found driving his big truck around the country or camping in North Georgia.
He loved to be outside--whether he was working on his truck or simply looking for his next project.
As much as Donnie loved his trucks, working outside, and camping, he’ll be remembered for how much he loved and cared for his family and friends. He was relentless in his love for family.
In Donnie’s last days, everyone who visited knew they were loved by him, and he knew he was deeply loved in return.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel and Dorothea Lewis, and his sister, Pam Fidler.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Lewis; sister, Debi Chancey (Keith Edge); children, Dennis (Denise) Lewis, Kristi (Michael, Sr.) Wheeler, Brian and Angie Woodring, Leslie Bonds, and Frankie Free. 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many loved ones.
Funeral services will be held Thursday September 15, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Powell Sailors will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
