Mr. Marvin Wayne Wigley, age 74, of Dahlonega, went to his Heavenly home on September 9, 2022.
Marvin was born in Dahlonega, GA, on December 28, 1947. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Wanda. The only person allowed to steal his blanket was his only grandson, Hunter, which offered them the perfect opportunity to share farm animal facts or make a secret fort. He was preceded in death by his parents Allen and Annie Kate Wigley, brother-in-law Jimmy McGinnis, Father-in-law and mother-in-law Elbert and Bessie Gaddis, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Leon and Lois Gaddis, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law Red and Helen McClure, and sister-in-law Frances Wigley.
Marvin attended the "Do Re Mi" Singing Schools and enjoyed directing Church music for many years. He served as the Interim Music Director at several churches (Poplar Springs Baptist in Gainesville, Oakwood First Baptist in Oakwood, Friendship Baptist in Buford) over the years before becoming the full-time Music Director at Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he remained in that position for over 30 years. He also served as a Deacon of Bethlehem Baptist Church as well as a Deacon of Cavenders Creek Baptist Church.
Southern gospel music was always a big part of Marvin's life. Marvin began singing at Bethlehem Baptist Church at the age of 13 and began leading some of the singing services at the age of 16. He sang and toured with multiple gospel groups over the years with his wife, Wanda. Some of the gospel groups he enjoyed singing with include The Chapeleers, The Waymakers, The Golden Harmony, The Sacred Hearts, Heaven's Song, and Chestatee River.
Marvin, a true entrepreneur, owned and operated Wigley Construction and Plumbing for over 30 years. He also owned and operated Fantasy Pools for over 20 years and worked at North Georgia College in the Procurement Department. Marvin was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Missing him most will be his loving and very devoted wife and caretaker for more than fifty-five years, Wanda Wigley, Dahlonega; son Kyle Wigley (Caroline), Statesville, NC; grandson Hunter Pope Wigley, sister Linda McGinnis, Colbert; brother Kenneth Wigley (Karen), Dahlonega; sister Peggy Hatcher (Jerry), Dahlonega; sister Ann Wigley, Dahlonega; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 12, 2022, in Cavenders Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Stephen Adams will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
