Melvin Wimpy

Mr. Melvin Wimpy, age 77, of Dahlonega, passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2022.

Mr. Wimpy was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was born on November 13, 1944, to the late Ernest F. and Wardye Pruitt Wimpy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wimpy was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Roy and Pearl Anderson Pruitt, paternal grandparents Wiley and Ada Anderson Wimpy, brothers Roy Wimpy, Henley Wimpy, Carl Wimpy, and Jackie Wimpy.

Melvin worked faithfully for thirty-four years as a Lumpkin County Elementary School custodian. He was a quiet and very gentle soul. Melvin dearly loved his nieces and nephews. He loved to gather around the table at Cracker Barrell with his family as often as he could. Melvin was a member of Cavenders Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his brothers Loy James "Bud" Wimpy, Dahlonega; Allen Wimpy (Elaine), Griffin; sister Marjorie Mason, Dahlonega; brothers Jeffrey Wimpy (Tracey), Gainesville; Wiley Wimpy (Hazel), Dahlonega; numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, September 9, 2022, at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Stephen Adams and the Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate. Interment will follow in Cavenders Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday and 12:00 PM until the service hour Friday at the funeral home.
