Florence King Wright

Obituary Date: Saturday, September 3, 2022

 

Florence King Wright passed away September 3rd, 2022 at North East Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA.

Florence was born August 23, 1930 in Atlanta Georgia to the late Harrie Burgess King and Hamilton King. She graduated from Napsonian High School in Atlanta and went on to attend Ward Belmont College in Nashville TN.  Vanderbilt University was close by and that is where she met her husband, the late Dr. A.D. Wright, Jr.

They married June 23rd, 1950 and moved to Augusta Georgia where he attended the Medical College of Georgia. Following her husband’s internship at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Florence and A.D. moved to Panama City, FL where he served as a Captain in the Air Force. In 1960 Florence and A.D.  settled in Gainesville GA where she helped him establish the first dermatology practice in Gainesville. Florence and A.D. were active members of First United Methodist Church.

         In 1980, Florence was attacked with Cancer. During this time of great trial, she began to seek a closer walk with the Lord, Jesus Christ. She was visiting New Covenant Christian Fellowship on the square in Gainesville when she received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit as spoke of in Acts chapter 1 vs. 8 and Acts chapter 2 vs. 1-4. After this experience, Florence became a very joyful person whose whole life was centered around the Lord. She loved to study the Bible and often gave encouraging words to fellow believers. She was a prayer warrior, active member of the church and served in the media ministry for Pastor Buddy Barron at New Covenant for many years. She was a very loving wife and mother and led her family into a closer walk with Jesus. Loving and serving her Lord and family were her greatest priorities in life. Later in life she also attended Free Chapel Worship Center and The Vineyard Church of Gainesville.

Florence is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Jay Alan Wright. Surviving Florence are her son, Asbury Dukes Wright, III (Berry), his wife Jule Hunnicutt Wright and their children; John Asbury Wright and William Holden Wright. Also surviving are her daughter Lynn Wright Martin, her husband Milton Martin, Jr. and their children; Malinda Nellie Ponce, Milton Jay Martin, Margaret Suzanne Martin, Kimberly Paige Askew, Joshua Evan Martin and Micah Seth Martin.

The family will receive friends on Saturday September 10th from 6-8 pm and on Sunday September 11th, 2022 from 2-3 pm with funeral following at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel, Gainesville, GA. Evangelist Milton Martin, Jr. and Reverend Buddy Barron will officiate. Interment to follow in Alta Vista Cemetery.
