Mrs. Catherine Fortner Smith, age 81, of Dahlonega, passed away Monday, September 5, 2022.
Catherine was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. She was born on June 8, 1941 to the late Charlie and Bessie Edge Fortner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands E.W. Wise and Elmer A. Anderson, son James Wise, grandson Kevin Pruitt and brother Eugene Fortner. Catherine worked faithfully at Gold City Nursing Home as a dietary cook. She was endeared by her co-workers and was “mama” to many of them. Catherine loved to read and solve word search problems. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her children Sharon Wise, Dawsonville; Edward L. Anderson, Dahlonega; Brian Charles Anderson, Dawsonville; brother Ernest Fortner, sister Charlotte Martin, both of Cleveland; grandchildren Brittany Anderson, Keeley McHugh, Ansley Patrum, Elijah James Wise; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Thursday, September 8, 2022, in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Ernest Fortner will officiate. Interment will follow in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday and 1:00 PM until the service hour Thursday at the funeral home.
