Mr. R.F. Wimpy, age 94, of Dahlonega, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022.
Mr. Wimpy was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was born on July 12, 1928, to the late Raleigh and Cona Grizzle Wimpy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wimpy was preceded in death by his brothers Edward Wimpy, John C. Wimpy, and James Allen Head. He served honorably in The United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Wimpy recently was a proud recipient of a quilt of valor that was presented to him by the Dahlonega VFW. He retired after forty-two years of dedicated work for Georgia Power.
Mr. Wimpy was a lifelong, faithful, and oldest member of Concord Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter and fisher. Among all his accomplishments, those that rose to the top were him being a faithful and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Wimpy was endeared and loved by his church family and many friends. He will be greatly missed.
Missing him most will be his wife of seventy-four years, Blonnie Mae Wimpy; daughter Sandra Neu; grandchildren Candace and Scott Gooch, Abi Wiegand; great-grandchildren Nick and Kelly Gooch, Gracie Gooch, Ava Grace Wiegand, and Fischer Wiegand; great great-grandchild Maverick Gooch; niece Sharon Head; nephews Floyd Wimpy and Allen Head.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 PM Friday, September 2, 2022, at Concord Baptist Church. The Rev. Lyman Caldwell and the Rev. Kris Butler will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the Rev. Tony Allison officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Thursday and 1:00 PM until the service hour on Friday at the funeral home.
