Gwendolyn Tigner

Her Life…

Gwendolyn Tigner, the daughter of the late Reverend James Tigner and Ethel Tigner, was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 7, 1953. She graduated from M. Hoke Smith High School and later attended Massey Business College.
After attending Massey Business College, Gwen became an employee of Grady Memorial Hospital/Hughes Spalding Children’s Hospital as a financial counselor, where she served for over 30 years. She furthered her service as lead financial counselor with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA).
Gwen was blessed with a daughter, Patrice Porter, and four grandchildren, whom she dearly loved.
She loved shopping, traveling, and grilling.

Gwen accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior during her early childhood years and maintained a devout relationship with the Lord until her final breath. Throughout her life she was very active in her home church, Hunter Hill Baptist Church, where she served in various ministries including Pastor’s Aid, youth, music, and others. Gwen also helped at other local ministries when requested serving in finance, music, and ministry of helps.

Gwen wholeheartedly embodied this scripture through the kindness she showed towards so many people throughout her lifetime. Her memory of love will continue through her devoted mother, Mrs. Ethel Tigner; daughter, Patrice Porter, grandchildren; Everton Carter, Khalil Miller, Sekhem Miller and M’Kayla Duncan. Also cherishing her memory brothers: Cedron E. Tigner, Min. Ricky Norwood and Kerry Norwood; sisters Mary Watkins-Clark and Kierra Tigner; aunt Evangelist Dorothy Norwood; nieces, nephews, 2 very caring Ryan Watkins and Jeremiah Glover; cousins, 2 devoted Herschel Horton and Clifford Ward: 2 godbrothers William Sims and Marlon Hughes; loving friends Mary Harris, Natalie Weaver, and Subrinia Barber; a very loving and devoted neighbor, Mr. James Donald; along with her Hunter Hill, CHOA, Grady families; and friends.
There will be a visitation on Friday, September 2nd between the hours of 5-7pm at Hunter Hill Baptist Church. The Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 3rd at the hour of 11am at Hunter Hill Baptist Church. Professional Services Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
