Edna Cooper Hix passed away on August 28, 2022. She was a resident of Fifth Avenue Health Care Center in Rome, GA. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Kenneth Hix, her brother, Curtis Cooper, two of her sisters, Hilda Pittman, and Jeanette Walling, and her parents, John Alvin and Ruby Malissa Hendrix Cooper.
Born May 20, 1931 in Hagan, GA, Edna grew up in Claxton and Savannah. As a young adult, she contracted tuberculosis and came to Battey Hospital in Rome, GA, for treatment. It was there she met Kenneth Hix, who was to become her husband. Having both been cured from tuberculosis, they married shortly after their release. Once her Kenneth finished graduate school at the University of Florida, they lived in both Rome and Gainesville, GA, until Kenneth’s death on July 27, 1991.
Edna was an active leader in the Senior Adult ministry of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville, GA, for several years. She enjoyed traveling. She and Kenneth were avid campers, and Edna participated in a number of cross-country trips with her church. Her favorite memory was a cruise to the Bahamas with friends.
At the time of her passing, she was a member of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church in Rome, GA. She is survived by her son Alan Hix and his wife Kathy (Rome, GA), her granddaughter Kelly Johnson and her husband Ben Johnson (Menlo, GA), great-grandchildren, Aria, Lydia, and Beau Johnson, and sisters Ava Nell McGlashen and Alice Waters (Claxton, GA), in addition to nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service for family will be held on September 6 at the Chandler Cemetery in Commerce, GA.
