Norma Snider Hamilton Raney

Obituary Date: Wednesday, August 10, 2022

Norma Snider Hamilton Raney, 89 of Gainesville, Georgia passed away August 10, 2022. Norma was born in Jacksonville, Alabama on August 13, 1932.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend A.J. Snider and Pearl (Downey) Snider, husband, Donald Raney, son, John Hamilton, Jr. and sister, Ellen Marie Snider.

She is survived by her daughter, Danita Hamilton, son, A.J. (Julia) Hamilton, son, Chris (Barbara) Hamilton. Grandchildren and spouses, Emily (Todd) Anderson, Joshua (Holly) Trawick, Lindsay Hamilton and Alie Hamilton. Great Grandchildren, Alexis, Jackson and Jon Trawick, Nicholas and Sam Anderson.

Norma’s father, A.J., was a Baptist preacher and she grew up singing in church and even on the radio. She continued this love of singing throughout her life. She was a member of The Sweet Adelines Barbershop Quartet and The Sweet Vidalias singing group.

Norma had lived in Gainesville for almost 50 years, but always considered Alabama home. She kept her parent’s home in Jacksonville and spent a lot of time there with family and friends.

She was an active member of The Order of the Eastern Star in both Georgia and Alabama. She served for several years as The Grand Choir Director of the Grand Chapter of Georgia Order of the Eastern Star. Norma represented the Georgia and Alabama Eastern Star Chapters at numerous Grand Chapter meetings throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Norma was a “Fashionista” before the word was even coined. Always perfectly dressed for any and every occasion and always arriving late!! She leaves behind an extensive collection of hats, shoes, and other accessories.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 17, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. (CST) at the Jacksonville Community Center, 501A Alexandria Road SW, Jacksonville, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Georgia Mountain Food Bank – gamountainfoodbank.org or Alzheimer’s Association – act.alz.org in Norma’s memory.
