James Almond "Bear" Jones

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. James Almond “Bear” Jones, age 81 of Statham, Georgia who entered rest Thursday, August 10, 2022.  Mr. Jones was born in Statham, Georgia a son of the late Lonnie Hodges and Maggie Townley Jones.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones is preceded by two sisters, Minnie Hartley and Virginia Brock, three brothers Charles, Calvin (Red), Ellis Jones, and a very special mother-in-law, Geneva Cain

Mr. Jones was a retired plumber with Bill Perry Plumbing, a veteran of the United States Army, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. 

Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Peg Jewell Cain Jones of Statham, Georgia. Son, Jeff Jones (wife, Michelle) of Athens, Georgia. Two sisters, Mary Wilson (husband, Shedrick) of Jefferson, and Ann Crowe (husband, Terry) of Statham, Georgia. Three brothers, Tommy Jones (wife, Bobbi) of Athens, Eddie Jones of Statham, and Robert Jones of Statham. Two grandchildren Levi Jones and Taylor Henry also survive.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M. Sunday, August 14, 2022, from the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Reverend Eric Shelton officiating with burial to follow in Evans Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. prior to the service.  Honored as pallbearers, Jacky Jones, Matt Brewer, Ricky Brewer, Michael Parker, Stanley Wymbs, and Andy Everett.
