Homer Colonel Elrod

Obituary Date: Tuesday, August 9, 2022

Homer Colonel Elrod, 97, of Gillsville passed away Tuesday August 9, 2022.   Homer was born on July 22, 1925 in Oakwood, GA., to the late Ratliff Claude Elrod, Sr. and Roberta Graham Elrod.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Johnnie Hawkins Elrod; daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Judy Partin; daughter and son, Rosie Hottum and Ronnie Elrod; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Owen and Patricia Ivey; stepdaughter, Shirley Lathem; brothers and sisters, Clyde Elrod, RC Elrod, Jr., Jack Elrod, Bessie Pittman, and Blanche Durand; grandchildren, Brad Carter, Emily Cox, and Andrew Peck.

Homer was a WWII Veteran and proudly served in the United States Navy.  After he returned from WWII, he worked as a glazier for many years until he retired. Homer loved to garden, work in his yard, and watch his flowers grow. He was an avid bird lover and fed the wild birds that visited his yard daily. Before he died, he gave confirmation he believed Jesus Christ died for his sins. We look forward to our reunion with him some day in the Kingdom of God.

The family will receive friends on Friday August 12 from 1-3 p.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home, Memorial Services will follow at 3:00 p.m.  in the Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Ken Ausborn officiating.
