Born September 19, 1950, to Martha Sue and Ulysses Rusty Shields in Jackson County. Later the family moved to hall county. James was single for several years until he was reunited with and married Nancy Ruth Hopkins. James worked many jobs over the years but the longest employment and one he later retired from was Namasco inc. James found God and held on to him most of his adult life. He was an active member of many churches over the years. During his union in marriage, he joined and became very active member at New Salem Baptist Church in Jefferson, Ga. His present membership was at The Living Word of Bethel in Gainesville, Ga. James loved to work with his hands. He was the family's handyman. He was always fixing things from automobiles to household items. James also loved reading and studying his bible. He had different kind of bible on every table at his house. No matter what room he was in, he could pick up one at a moment notice. He loved listening to his old gospel music. James was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Ruth Shields. His sister-Mary Annette Childers, Brother, Ernest Shields. He was also preceded in death by Father, Rusty Shields and step-father-Donald Hunter. He leaves to cherish his stepdaughters, Kim Pruitt and Stacie (Richard) Hill. Mother-Martha Sue Sheppard Hunter. Two sisters, Barbara (Charles) Wilburn, Kimbler(Abel) Pena. Brothers- Billy Ray Shields and James (Gail) Pulliam of Gainesville Ga. Aunt-Carolyn Sheppard of Athens, Ga A host of Nieces and nephews. The visitation for Mr. Shields will be held Friday, August 12th between the hours of 12-8pm at Wimberly Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 13th at Memorial Park- North- Riverside Dr. at 12noon. Professional Service Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
