James Douglas Whitmire, 87, of Gainesville, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, July 29, 2022, after a few weeks of declining health.
Doug was born on June 2, 1935 in Forsyth County but made Hall County his home. The son of Ralph and Floyce Whitmire, he married Patricia Waters in 1954 and they just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on June 19, 2022.
He made a difference in this community by serving in the Georgia House of Representatives, Georgia D.O.T. Board, Shriners, and being a Deacon of his church, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Doug and his sons, David and Scott Whitmire, became Wendy’s franchisees and ran a successful business for 25 years.
Doug accomplished a lot in his lifetime and made a lasting impact in our community, but his greatest accomplishment was his family and his church. He will be missed.
Preceded in death by his son, Scott Whitmire; parents, Ralph and Floyce Whitmire ad brothers, Don, Raymond and Doyle Whitmire.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Patricia Whitmire; son, David Whitmire; grandchildren, Dustin and wife Erin Whitmire, Christy and husband Kyle Chambers, (of David Whitmire), Cortney and husband Jeremy Pannell, Nikki Whitmire, Jessica and husband Craig Cheever (of Scott Whitmire), and 8 beloved great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 4, 2022 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 3650 GA-369 Gainesville, GA 30504. The family will receive Wednesday,, August 3, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
