George J. Blackwell Jr. departed this life, peacefully, on Monday, July 25th after living a very full life. George loved his family. He would always greet those he knew and those he didn't with a smile. He was a people's person and never met a stranger. George had a gift of making those around him laugh and feel welcome. He made his childhood memories in Calhoun Falls, SC. and later moved to Elberton, GA. His final stop was in Gainesville, Georgia, where he worked and retired from Lanier Scrap Metal as a yard foreman. He was a skilled mechanic who loved working on cars, lawnmowers, and he had a passion for gardening. You could also find George in the kitchen cooking his favorite sides- fried okra, green tomatoes, and cornbread. His other past times included riding motorcycles (with his sons, nieces, and nephews) and fishing. George will be dearly missed and always remembered. George is proceeded in death by his mom Isabelle Tate, dad George Blackwell, Sr., and brother Joe (Ethelrene) Blackwell. He is survived by his wife Elma Jean Blackwell, children; George F. (Sequalya) Blackwell, George E. (Andreka) Blackwell, Sonia (Timmy) Stanley, Doris Isabelle Blackwell, Evelyn Michelle Blackwell, Brenda Postell, his life partner; Brenda Ann Parks, and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The visitation for Mr. Blackwell will be Sunday, July 31st at Wimberly Funeral Home between the hour of 12-8pm. Mr. Blackwell's Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, August 1st at the hour of 1pm. Professional Service Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
